Microstructure characteristics and CO2 corrosion resistance properties of electrical resistance welded (ERW) pipe

CO2 corrosion is one of important and dangerous corrosion patterns for the application of tubular goods in the petroleum and gas exploiting. In the present study, the CO2 corrosion resistance properties of ERW pipe are investigated in a simulated condition of oil well at different temperatures using an autoclave. The results show that the corrosion reaction is most seriously at 60 °C. Microstructural characteristics of weld seam, heat affected zone and pipe body are respectively studied by SEM, EBSD and TEM. There are abundant of fine titanium carbide precipitations in weld seam of the ERW pipe. Relationship between corrosion behavior and microstructure of ERW pipe are discussed.Copyright © 2008 MS&T'08®.
