Abstract
The virtual reality sport simulator system is useful and challenging. We introduce three-dimensional mathematics-physics models that include the motion model and deformation algorithm for the simulation of the virtual basketball shooting. With the motion model of basketball, the motion path of the basketball can be calculated, and whether the basketball successfully hits the target can be determined. With the deformation algorithm, the basketball's behavior of deformation is realistically simulated in virtual reality environment. Furthermore, we integrated the mathematics-physics models into the Yao Ming shooting in Olympic Game system which provides a vivid virtual reality scene of the basketball sport. The experimental results show that the motion model and deformation algorithm for the basketball is efficient in terms of computational complexity and memory occupation. © 2008 Binary Information Press December 2008.
