Abstract
Aim: To observe the clinical feasibility, safety and effectiveness of autologous marrow stem cells transplantation in treating acute myocardial infarction. Methods: Six inpatients with acute ST elevated myocardial infarction aged 18-75 years were selected from Beijing Tongren Hospital between November 2003 and June 2004. They all agreed to receive the autologous marrow stem cells trasplatation. The patients were treated by revascularization with PCI, and then injected with granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (G-CSF) 10 μg/kg per day for 5 days to mobilize marrow stem cells into peripheral blood, further isolated and purified the single nucleus cells from peripheral blood at the 6th day, and then these cells were infused into the infarcted related coronary artery. The patients were followed up for 6 months. Results: All the 6 patients with myocardial infarction entered the analysis of results. 1 The single-photon emission, computed tomography (SPECT) and positron emission tomography showed that the infarcted area was averagely decreased by 42.7% at 3 months after treatment, including decreased by 68% in 2 cases at 6 months after treatment, and decreased by 31.5% in the other 4 cases at 3 months after treatment. 2 At 3 months after treatment, the average left ventricular ejection fraction was increased from 35.6% to 50.8% by 15.2%. 3 No malaise occurred during the transplantation, and no abnormality was observed during the follow-up. Conclusion: Autologous bone marrow stem cells after mobilization can further isolate and purify the monocytes in peripheral blood to treat myocardial infarction, it can ameliorate the cardiac function and reduce infarcted area of patients with myocardial infarction with more safety.
