Hydrogen Bonded 2d Interwoven And 3d Interlocked Networks In Solid State Mn (Ii) Complexes Of 1, 4-Bis(4-Carboxypyridinium)Butane

By reacting 1, 4-bis(4-carboxypyridinium) butane (L) with Mn(ClO4)(2) . 6H(2)O and MnCl2 . 4H(2)O, respectively, under the same conditions, the crystals of two Mn (II) coordination compounds, namely {[MnL2(H2O)(4)] . 2H(2)O . 2ClO(4)}(n) (1) and {[MnL(H2O)(3)] . H2O . 2Cl}(n) (2) were obtained from the resulted aqueous solutions. Single crystal X-ray structure analysis of these compounds revealed that the former possesses a hydrogen-bonded 2D interwoven network and the latter a hydrogen-bonded 3D interlocked architecture. The results demonstrated that the ability of the counter anions forming hydrogen bond is critical in determining the solid state structures of these compounds. CCDC: 1, 166206; 2, 166205.
