Semi-solid thixoforging of nondendritic AlSi7Mg alloy

The semi-solid thixoforging of nondendritic AlSi7Mg alloy was studied. The results show that the billets of semi-solid AlSi7Mg alloy which are cast continuously at the rate of 1.5-3 mm/s can be made under electromagnetic stirring. The temperature field in the billets reheated to the liquid-solid zone by an induction reheating system can be homogeneous and the proper reheating temperature is in the range of 580°C to 590°C. When the die mould temperature is in the range of 100°C to 300°C and the pressure is from 15 to 25 MPa, the master brake cylinders and scale valves can be thixoforged successfully.
