2-Amino-5-oxo-2-tetrahydofuran carboxylic acids, novel γ-lactone antibacterial agents

Five 2-amino-5-oxo-2-tetrahydrofuran carboxylic acids were designed and synthesized as new antibacterial agents. Their chemical structures were identified by MS, IR, 1H-NMR. All target compounds exhibited potent antibacterial activity against most of the 20 strains of Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria tested, and compound 3e showed equal activity to ceftriaxone against most of them.
