Study on catalysts for methanol-fueled vehicle exhaust control: I. Deep oxidation of methanol on Pd-Al2O3

The deep oxidation of methanol on alumina - supported palladium catalyst at low temperature has been investigated in a laboratory reactor. The results-are as follows: Pd/�� - Al2O3 catalysts have very high methanol oxidation activity and fairly good deep oxidation selectivity, in which, the 0.1% Pd/�� - Al2O3 prepared by impregnating (NH4)2PdCl4 precursor solution into the gamma alumina powder and calcined in reducing gas has the highest activity, and it's T50, T95 is 90��C 200��C respectively in the absence of CO. The yields of partial oxidation products such as formaldehyde, methyl formate are not high. In addition, the components of feed gas such as O2, CO have strong influence on the activity and selectivity of methanol oxidation over Pd/�� - Al2O3 catalyst.
