Failure of radiotherapy in the treatment of Stage I cancer of larynx

Eighty-eight cases of Stage I cancer of larynx were treated with conventional fractionation irradiation in the period of 1976-1990. The overall 5-year local control rate was 72.7%. However the same rate varied very much with the site and the pathologic type of the lesion. For less radiosensitive lesions such as supraglottic carcinomas surgical excision seemingly more preferable.
