Numerical simulations of propagation of intense microwave in a waveguide

The physical processes of propagation of intense and short electromagnetic pulse in a rectangular waveguide were simulated by employing the electron fluid equations and Maxwell's equations. Some characteristic parameters, germane to the air breakdown for different pressures were presented, which include the breakdown positions in the waveguide, sneak-through times and fractions of electromagnetic energies transmitted. The tail-erosion phenomenon of the high-power microwave pulse in air for uniform initial electron density and the splitting process for Gaussian initial electron density can be seen. The physical mechanisms of various results were analyzed.
