Pyroelectric energy meter with high sensitivity and fast response for millimeter wave laser

Basing on pyroelectric theory, a novel millimeter wave laser energy detector with high sensitivity and fast response was designed and developed. It was calibrated at different operating frequencies separately, and the main performance parameters were given. Its sensitivity is about tens/mV/��J, which is four to five orders higher than traditional detector. Its time response is less than 1 ��s, and the speed of response has been improved by six to seven orders. This energy meter has been used in the detection system of Raman free-electron lasers. The typical parameters of the output millimeter wave laser pulses were successfully measured.
