CT manifestations of intrapulmonary sequestration

Objective To analyze the CT features of intrapulmonary sequestration(IPS).Methods CT features of 38 patients with IPS were retrospectively reviewed.Twenty-seven patients underwent enhanced CT directly,8 were suggested to undergoing enhanced CT after being suspected PS with plain scanning,3 were supposed to undergo enhanced scan after being suspected with other diseases with plain CT.The images were reconstructed.The intrapulmonary appearances,the origin and the diameter of feeding arteries were recorded.Results The most common appearances in lung included consolidation combined cystic change(n=20) and bronchiectasis combined emphysema(n=15).In 25 patients with feeding artery from thoracic aorta,IPS located in the left lower lobe in 16 patients,in the right lower lobe in 9 patients.When the feeding artery was from abdominal aorta or celiac trunk(n=13),IPS located in the left lower lobe in 4 patients,in the right lower lobe in 9 patients.Conclusion CT manifestations of IPS are characteristic.Consolidation combined cystic changes or bronchiectasis combined emphysema on plain CT can indicate IPS,and then enhanced scan should be suggested.
