A sensor deployment mechanism based on data quality

Recently, more and more scientific applications collect the observed data in sensor networks. However, many factors such as environmental influence, physical damages, all can make the sensors generate untrustworthy data and even lead to the erroneous scientific results, and as the data source, sensors have great influence on data quality. Therefore, we analyze the data quality dimensions in the sensors layer and build the relationship between dimensions and kinds of factors. Based on these discussion we propose a sensors deployment mechanism for Environment Monitoring applications-DQDS, which adopts two layers deployment to monitor the regular and abnormal regions and build the relationship between awaked nodes and monitor precise. Finally the performance of DQDS employed in seism monitoring is analyzed and the results show it could guarantee the data quality efficiently and reduce the energy consumption. © 2013 by CESER Publications.
