Abstract
Two new salts, [BzPid] 2 [Ni(mnt) 2 ] ( 1 ) and [4-NO 2 BzPid] 2 [Ni(mnt) 2 ] ( 2 ) ([BzPid] + = 1-benzylpiperidinium and [4-NO 2 BzPid] + = 1-(4′-nitrobenzyl)piperidinium, mnt 2− = maleonitriledithiolate), were synthesized and characterized. The [Ni(mnt) 2 ] 2− anions of 1 and 2 form the stepwise structure through short N···N interactions. In 1 , there exists weak N + –H···N, C–H···N, and C–H···Ni hydrogen bonds, while some weak interactions such as π···π, short O···O interaction, C–H···O and C–H···N hydrogen bonds are found in 2 . These weak interactions play important roles in the stacking of the molecular and result in the forming of a 3D structure. Graphical Abstract The [Ni(mnt) 2 ] 2− anions of two new salts [BzPid] 2 [Ni(mnt) 2 ]( 1 ) and [4-NO 2 BzPid] 2 [Ni(mnt)2]( 2 ) form the stepwise structure through short N···N interactions, and some weak interactions such as N + –H···N, C–H···N, C−H···O, C–H···Ni hydrogen bonds and π···π and O···O interactions result in the forming of a 3D structure
