Yellow phosphors of Eu2+, Bi3+ Co-Activated Sr 3Al2O5Cl2 for Near UV Light-Emitting Diodes

New phosphors, Sr3Al2O5Cl2 co-doped with Eu2+ and Bi3+, were prepared by solid state reaction technique, and their photoluminescent properties were investigated. Introducing Bi3+ ion broadened the excitation band of the phosphor Sr3Al2O5Cl2: Eu2+ and enhanced the emission intensity of Eu2+ under 400 nm excitation. The yellow LEDs were fabricated by combining InGaN-chips with Sr2.8Al2O5Cl2: 0.20Eu(2+) and Sr2.7Al2O5Cl2: 0.20Eu(2+), 0.10Bi(3+), intense yellow light can be observed by naked eyes. The phosphor Sr2.7Al2O5Cl2: 0.20Eu(2+), 0.10Bi(3+) may be applied in fabrication of phosphor-converted light-emitting diodes (LEDs). (C) 2012 The Electrochemical Society. All rights reserved.
