Mechanical performance tests of a novel fiber-reinforced-plastic plate isolation bearing

This paper presents a new type of low-cost isolation device-fiber-reinforced-plastic plate isolation bearing (SFRPB). It use the unsaturated polyester resin glass-fiber reinforced plastics plate instead of the steel plate of the traditional steel-reinforced isolator.compared with the traditional steel-reinforced isolator, it has the advantage of lightweight, low-cost, good performance, convenience installation and simple production process. The test of SFRPB is presented, such as the test for its compression characteristics, shear properties, compression and shear properties of relevance, and ultimate mechanical properties. Results show that the unsaturated polyester resin glass-fiber reinforced plastics plate meets the demands of what the isolation bearings need, and it is feasible to replace the steel reinforcement with it. SFRPB is an ideal type of isolation bearing with stable performance, and compression stiffness which is much higher than the horizontal shear stiffness.
