Abstract
Purpose: To present a new real-time system for acquisition and display of B-scan ophthalmic ultrasound images.Method: Firstly, the super video graphics array (SVGA) digital signal was acquired from the front-end of video graphics array (VGA) connector and then was transmitted to static random access memory and universal serial bus (USB) chip controlled by field-programmable gate array (FPGA). Secondly, the image-data (from SVGA signal) were encoded to reduce errors during transmission. Finally, the image-data were decoded by personal computer (PC) software to display and process.Result: This system made the B-scan ultrasound images transmit in real-time with a speed of 71 Mb s(-1) and made the images display clearly. Conclusion: This study explored the feasibility of real-time transmission and display of B-scan ultrasound images with USB. Furthermore, it is indicated that digital video acquisition can transmit images with high fidelity and high speed, and can make the images easy to store and process.
