Abstract
The influence of maleic anhydride graft IPC (AA-g-IPC) grafting parameters on tensile properties of coir/IPC composites was investigated. Acrylic acid (AA) was grafted onto impact polypropylene copolymer (IPC) by melt grafting, and coir/IPC composites were prepared with the AA-g-IPC as compatibilizer. Orthogonal design of L 9(4 3) was designed to determine the influence of grafting parameters on tensile property of the coir/IPC composites. The results show that the sequence of the influence degree is: AA content>mixing time>DCP dosage>mixing temperature. The optimum condition of grafting was fixed on, and AA content should select 10%, and DCP dosage 0.16%, mixing time 5 min, mixing temperature 185 °C. The tensile strength of the coir/IPC composite after melting grafting reached 17.46 MPa under the optimal conditions, which inosculated with the statistical forecast results. The flexural and impact strength of the composite enhance obviously after adding the compatibilizer The measurement results of FTIR proved that graft copolymerization reaction taken place between the coir and IPC, and the AA-g-IPC was gained in troth. © 2012 American Scientific Publishers All rights reserved.
