Medizinische Textilien mit integrierten polymeroptischen Fasern zur Atmungssensorik Medicinal Textiles with Integrated Polymer-Optical Fibers for Respiration Monitoring

We report on medical textiles with embedded polymer optical fibres (POF) for the monitoring of respiratory movements. The sensor development targets primarily on the monitoring of sedated or anaesthetized patients under Medical Resonance Imaging. The sensor designs discussed in this paper are based on two different techniques. The first one uses the optical time-domain reflectometry for distributed respiration measurement; the second one is based on long period gratings in microstructured POF.
