Abstract
The Invance system is a minimally invasive procedure marketed by AMS allowing the treatment of postoperative urinary incontinence in men by placement of a tape underneath the perineal urethra attached to the ischiopubic rami by 6 titanium screws. The material used in the Invance system consists of silicone-coated polyester tape (Intemesh, AMS). The results are variable with differences in success rate ranging from 37.5 to 79 % according to the study. These variations can be explained by different methods of evaluation. The Invance system appears to be more effective for mild-to-moderate urinary incontinences. A history of radiotherapy and artificial urinary sphincter appears to be associated with higher failure and complication rates. No intraoperative complications have been reported in the literature. The most frequent postoperative complications are acute urinary retention and persistent perineoscrotal pain. Exceptionally, some authors have described suburethral tape infections, de novo irritating or obstructive symptoms and exacerbation of irritating symptoms.
