Improved mass-spectrometric isotopic analysis using an amplitude selector for pulse counting with a scintillation ion detector

Isotopic analyses of solid samples by mass spectrometry can be difficult to obtain accurately if instrument background peaks are present. A method is described which reduces this background by over a factor of 10, using an amplitude selector in the ion pulse counting system of a scintillation detector.
