Adverse effects of silicones on painting and other finishing operations

The problems associated with silicones and other similarly acting materials are well known in the finishing industry. The classic problem is the disruption of paint films in the form of 'craters' or 'fisheyes'. But contaminant silicones can cause a variety of cleaning and wetting problems for finishing in general - especially when water based processes are involved. The present article is aimed at assisting those involved in the industry to recognise the problems, and develop countermeasures.
