Treatment of malignant obstructive jaundice: biliary stent implantation + intraluminal brachytherapy by I-125 seeds

Objective To investigate the feasibility and preliminary methods of intraluminal braehytherapy by I-125 seeds in treatment of malignant obstructive jaundice. Methods Intraluminal brachytherapy by I-125 seeds was performed in 12 patients who had been treated with biliary stent implantation. Results No complications related to intraluminal brachytherapy by I-125 seeds had happened. 3 patients died from the failure of respiration and circulation due to advanced stages cancer. Conclusion Biliary stent implantation + intraluminal brachytherapy by I-125 seeds is a safe and effective method in treating malignant tumor causing obstructive jaundice.
