Brillouin light scattering study of Ni/Pt multilayers

A Brillouin light scattering study of three sputtered Ni/Pt multilayers revealed spin wave moves between 5 and 20 GHz for externally applied fields of 0.01–0.45 T. The samples consisted of 8–15 bilayers, with magnetic layers of 14–36 Å, separated by a constant non-magnetic layer of 20 Å. The gyromagnetic ratio, γ, saturation magnetisation, 4πMs, and band factor, ξ, were obtained, and the magnetisation compared with values from VSM.
