Misdiagnosis analysis and follow-up of 32 cases with acute diarrhea

Objective To investigate the misdiagnosis reasons and clinical characteristics of acute diarrhea in out-patient department.Methods The misdiagnosis reasons,manifestations,treatments and outcome were retrospectively analyzed in 32 cases with acute diarrhea enrolled in our clinic from May 1,2008 to October 31,2011.Results Nine cases with acute appendicitis were misdiagnosed,and the rate of misdiagnosis was highest.And six cases with ulcerative colitis,five cases with drug-related diarrhea,five cases with colorectal cancer were misdiagnosed.Besides,ectopic pregnancy,acute inferior myocardial infarction,acute pancreatitis,kidney stone,ischemic enteropathy were involved.All of them were cured or improved.Conclusion There is significance to be familiar with all kinds of diseases causing the acute diarrhea and grasp the scientific method.
