InfoNorma: Um Sistema de Recomendação baseado em Tecnologias da Web Semântica

The huge amount of data available on the Web, a phenomenon known as information overload, generates a demand for applications able to select, in an automated way, items that are relevant to users. To answer this demand, recommender systems use information filtering algorithms to satisfy the long term information needs of users. However, the poor semantic structure of data available on the Web shortens seriously such algorithm efficiency. The Semantic Web figures as a reasonable solution to this problem aiming at structuring the information on the Web in a way that it can be understood and processed by software entities. It was in this context that InfoNorma, a multi-agent system for providing recommendations in the juridical area using Semantic Web technologies, was developed. The use of a traditional Web-based source resulted in many difficulties related to information source processing. Such difficulties were overcome through the use of Semantic Web technologies. This paper introduces the InfoNorma system and discusses how the use of Semantic Web technologies contributes to improve the system effectiveness on information access.
