Synthesis, spectroscopic, magnetic and EPR results and crystal structure of di-μ-(N-methyl-N-methoxy-2-pyridinamine)bis[(2,2′-bipyridine)copper(II)]hexaflourophosphate

The dinuclear complex [{Cu(bipy)}2{μ-Me(OCH2)Npy}2](PF6)2 has been synthesized by the reaction of [{Cu(bipy)}2(μ-OH)2](PF6)2 with MeNHpy. The X-ray crystal structure shows a distorted square-planar pyramidal coordination for Cu(II). The compound is slightly antiferromagnetic (2J=−3.6 cm−1). In the Q-band EPR spectrum signals of triplet (D>hν) are observed.
