Xylose Transfer To Lipids By Membranes Of Carrot Cell-Suspensions

Membrane fractions from embryogenic cultures of carrot ( Daucus carota) incorporated [C-14]xylose from UDP[C-14]Xyl into lipids. The biosynthesis seems to be constitutive with the incorporation rate being higher in undifferentiated cells as compared to embryos. Most of the labelled xylolipids were neutral and consisted of a steryl-[C-14]xyloside and three of its acylated derivatives, Traces of an anionic lipid-[C-14]xylose behaving as a polyprenol derivative were also detected.
