Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD) is a severe, progressive, muscle wasting neuromuscular disorder, characterized by the synthesis of truncated non-functional dystrophin proteins. One of the most promising therapeutic approaches for DMD involves the restoration of the genetic defect by antisense oligonucleotide (AON) mediated exon skipping that results in the synthesis of shortened but partly functional dystrophin proteins.
