The title compound is the condensation product of the aminoacid D-penicillamine with glyoxylic acid, followed by esterification with methanol/HCl. It crystallizes from ether/petroleum ether orthorhombically in the space group P2(1)2(1)2(1) with a = 1033.4(6), b = 1678.2(6) and c = 730.7(3) pm.
