Amniotic Membrane Transplantation For Pan Ocular For Surface Diseases

Objective To evaluate the clinical effect of amniotic membrane transplantation(AMT) in ocular surface diseases.Methods 24 patients(28 eyes) with ocular surface disease were treated with fresh amniotic membrane,including tumor of conjunctiva,total symblepharon,alkali burn,acid burn and thermal burn. Reconstruction of ocular surface,amniotic and visual acuity were evaluated in 4 to 18 months after surgery. Results The fresh amniotic membrane was no acute rejection occurred in all the patients.25 eyes conjunctiva grew well with once amniotic membrane transplantation and reconstructed ocular surface successfully.The visual acuity improved to various extent.Conclusions AMT is an effective method for ocular surfaces diseases because amniotic membrane can effectively facilitate the polarization and migration of epithelial cells,reduce local inflammation reaction,neovascularization and fibrosis,stopping the burned pathologic process.
