3622 The effectiveness of continuing professional development (CPD) for clinical oncologists

This paper considers the related concepts of continuing professional development (CPD) and competence, in light of the introduction of clinical governance and the recent passage of the Health Act. It highlights the complex relationship between the two concepts and the different ways in which they tend to be perceived. It suggests how the two could be addressed together in a way that is constructive to all stakeholders.It is based on a paper that was prepared for consideration by several CSP committees and working parties in the spring and summer of 1999.
