Abstract
Renovascular hypertension is the most frequent secondary cause of hypertension (0.5-2%). Captopril renal scintigraphy is safe, noninvasive, and effective in the detection of renovascular hypertension. Positive captopril renography may suggest a cure of hypertension and improvement in renal function with successful renal revascularization. The authors report the case of successful detection of renovascular hypertension by captopril renal scintigraphy in a patient with 2 hilar renal arteries. Revascularization of the stenosed hilar artery was obtained by transluminal angioplasty and stent placement, leading to rapid control of the hypertension.
