Multi-target-oriented seismic exploration in desert area of Tarim Basin - A case history

Summary The vast desert of the Tarim basin is always the key area of black oil exploration. The surface of this area is covered with loose huge thick sand dunes and the subsurface geologic conditions are very complicated, so the exploration there is quite challenging. Since 2002, in view of the characters and difficulties of multi-target- oriented exploration in this area; BGP has begun to tackle these key problems. The quality of sections has been greatly improved by optimizing geometries, shooting in a deep hole in the water table, and conducting the fine near-surface investigation, thus we have obtained new geologic knowledge and got excellent exploration results.
