Abstract
This article concludes a two-part focus on private academic institutions with U.S. GPO depository libraries. The first part, “General Characteristics of Private Academe and Public U.S. Federal Depository Libraries” described basic institutional traits at private depositories. The second part, “Access and Promotion,” analyzes data from a survey of GPO depositories located in private academe, and further explores issues of access and promotional activities. While a private academic institution may be exclusive, its library, if it has a federal government depository library, generally is not. Librarians and outside users may have to contend with some institutional tendencies that seek to limit services to the academic constituency. While promotional activities may be limited, the majority of private academic libraries with GPO depositories have free and open access to all library collections.
