Abstract
staged these 59 patients. The survival of 116 patients staged as N1 by both systems was also statistically different from the 56 patients staged as N1 according to our system but staged as N2 according to TNM7 staging system(p=0.024).This suggest that TNM7 staging system is superior to our classification in determining impact of nodal burden on prognosis.CONCLUSION We conclude that the location of nodal involvement plays an important role in determining the prognosis of patients.Patients with nodal involvement on both sides of the diaphragm should be classified as a worst prognosis group (N3) regardless of nodal burden. However TNM7 is superior in determining prognosis by nodal burden alone.A hybrid staging system incorporating the current TNM staging system and our revised lymph node staging system would most accurately prognosticate patients with oesophageal adenocarcinoma.
