BACKGROUND CONTEXT: In vitro and in vivo studies of the X Stop device have shown increase in foraminal and lumbar spinal canal dimensions with reduction in the segmental range of movement at the surgical level. Previous clinical studies of X Stop have shown an improvement in symptoms and function of 75% and 45% at 1 year and 2 years respectively.
