The Acrylic Resin Leather Coating Agent Modified by Nano-SiO2

The acrylic resin leather coating agent modified by nano-SiO2 is investigated in this article. NanO-SiO2 is prepared by the sol-gel reaction from tetraethoxysilane (TEOS) catalyzed with acid and mixed with an acrylic resin. The properties of nano-SiO2 particles at different aging times are studied. The physical-mechanical properties of the films from modified acrylic resin by nano-SiO2 sol particles are obtained. Besides, the hygiene property of the leather finished using nano-SiO2 is measured. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) are employed to characterize the presence of nano-SiO2 particles in the SiO2 sol. The acrylic resin and modified acrylic resin are analyzed with differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). The results show that the physical-mechanical properties and hygiene property of the film from SiO2-AR (acrylic resin) coating agent composite increase notably: air and water vapor permeability are improved by 15.4 and 11.5% respectively.
