More hydrophilic bacterial bile acid metabolites are concentrated in the aqueous phase of human stool

Introduction: PSC is a chronic cholestatic disease of unknown origin, involving genetic and immunologic factors; it is often associated with several autoimmune diseases, like IBD.We investigated the role of MHC complex genes and the mutations of CFTR gene as a genetic background ofPSC.Methods: allelic polymorphism at the DNA level were investigated in genes of MHC region (HLA DRBl, DQBI, TNFa, TAPI and TAP2) and in CFTR gene (31 mutations and polymorphism of intron 8) with peR based methodologies (ARMS, PCR-SSP, PCR-RFLP, PCR-OLA-SCS) in 55 PSC patients (29 male, 26 female) and 90 controls (43 male, 47 female)
