Abstract
Objective To study the colonoscopy results in adolescents.Methods A retrospective study was performed in patients from 12 to 18 years old who underwent colonoscopic examinations in a hospital between January 1995 and December 2004.Results A total of 107 patients received colonoscopic examination.The main manifestations were abdominal pain,diarrhea and hematochezia.The endoscopes reached appendices in 95 patients((88.79%)).None of the patients occurred complications such as haemorrhage or perforation.The examination results in 42 cases((39.25%)) were abnormal,17((15.89%)) of whom were with chronic colorectitis,10((9.35%)) were large intestinal polyp,7((6.54%)) were ulcerative colitis,3((2.80%)) were large intestinal polyposis,2(1.87%) were crohn's disease,2((1.87%)) were large intestinal carcinoma,1((0.93%)) were intestinal flagellosis. Conclusion It is safe and necessary to perform endoscopic examination in adolescents from 12 to 18 years old.Patients with familial history or chronic abdominal symptoms should have examination and treatment in time.
