Epidemiology Analysis on Reported Guillain-Barrè Syndrome Cases among Children Under 15 between 2004 and 2010 in Gansu Province

OBJECTIVE To analyze the epidemiological characteristics of Guillain-Barre syndrome(GBS) under 15 years old in Gansu Province,to provide the evidenced for the prevention against the related infectious diseases.METHODS The epidemiology characteristics of prevalence of GBS among reported acute flaccid paralysis(AFP) between 2004 and 2010 was analyzed.RESULTS The average incidence of GBS was 1.19/100 000 among the children under 15 years in Gansu Province.The cases of incidence account for 59.01% of all AFP cases and was mainly sporadic.The peak of incidence was during July to November.The rate of residual paralysis was 30.75% among reported cases and the case fatality rate was 2.15%.CONCLUSION Effective measures should be taken to increase sensitivity of surveillance system,determine the high risk areas and population,and the cause of GBS.
