Preliminary study on emergency control of brown planthoppers outbreak.

An outbreak of brown planthoppers occurred in Shanghai areas in 2005.The numbers of the insects and their eggs sharply increased at the early filling stage of rice and the damage by them had been the most serious since 1985.The field information of the brown planthoppers was publicized in time after the state was confirmed by system monitoring and selective examination.The large-area damage by brown planthoppers was controlled effectively by means of scientific control decision-making combined with administrative means when the control effect of main pesticides was not good.
