Synthesis, crystal structure and solid state photoluminescence of [Pt(trpy)(CCPh)]SbF6 (trpy=2,2′:6′,2″-terpyridine)

Variable temperature X-ray diffraction studies show that the orange polymorph of [Pt(trpy)(CCPh)]SbF6 undergoes a phase change on cooling below 200K; and that this is reflected in a change in the solid emission from purely 3MLLCT (LL=ligand–ligand) above 200K to include 3MMLCT (MM=metal–metal) emission below 200K.
