Particulate matters component profile of exhaust emission from heavy duty diesel vehicle at Tianjin, China

A study on the chemical characteristics of particulate matters (PM10) in emission from engine of a heavy duty diesel vehicle was carried out. Gaseous pollutants were monitored and chemical components of PM10 in emission, e.g., 10 PAH and 16 elements, were analyzed. It was possible to use organic concentration of carbon in exhaust emissions from diesel engine as markers, along with the statistical analysis of PM samples, to identify likely atmospheric contamination sources. The emissions were influenced by the engine running mode. Either high speed or low speed of engine would produce more emissions. This is an abstract of a paper presented at the 101st AWMA Annual Conference and Exhibition (Portland, OR 6/24-27/2008).
