Temperature tolerances of the formosan and eastern subterranean termites (isoptera: rhinotermitidae)

1.1.|The critical thermal maxima (CTMax) and minima (CTMin), and upper (ULL) and lower lethal limits (LLL) of worker and soldier Coptotermes formosanus Shiraka and Reticulitermes flavipes Kollar were determined.2.2.|The CTMax of worker and soldier C. formosanus (both 46.3°C) were significantly greater than the CTMax of worker and soldier R. flavipes (45.4 and 45.2°C, respectively). The CTMin of worker R. flavipes (13.3°C) was significantly greater than that of soldier R. flavipes (12.1°C).3.3.|The ULL of worker and soldier C. formosanus (48.0 and 46.7°C, respectively) were significantly greater than those of worker and soldier R. flavipes (46.4 and 46.7°C, respectively). The CTMax and ULL of stages within each termite species were not significantly different.4.4.|No differences in LLL were observed.
