Recovery and recrystallization of rapidly solidified Mg ribbons

Microcrystalline ribbons of commercially pure Mg were prepared by melt spinning. Their good thermal stability during isochronal annealing from room temperature up to 300 degrees C was revealed by means of electrical resistance measurements, microhardness measurements, light microscopy, and positron annihilation spectroscopy. The rolling of rapidly solidified ribbons at room temperature makes the stability of their microstructure worse between room temperature and 300 degrees C due to the onset of recovery, primary recrystallization, and grain growth.
