Summary Evaluation of the growth of juvenile of Catfish Ariopsis bonillai using food with probiotics in laboratory conditions Between May and August of 2004 four diets were evaluated for the raising of the Big head Catfish Ariopsis bonillai: A) fresh fish; B) concentrate with 35% of protein (Camaronina of Purina®); C) probiotic 1 (concentrate and Renascitur BLCS® al 0,05%); and D) probiotic 2 (concentrate and Renascitur Green® 0,05%). Experiment was made with 96 juvenile with initial average weight and length of 1,7 g and 5,7 cm, respectively. The specimens were distributed into 12 aquaria, with eight specimens each and four aquaria per diet. Biometrics was carried out each 15 days, doing each time the corresponding adjustment of diets to maintain the supply of food in 10% of the biomass. Treatment B presented the best survival rate (79,1%), while C derived in greater average weight and length (9,4 g and 10,8 cm). Likewise, A presented lowest survival rate (8,3%) and D the lowest average weight and length (5,3 g and 8,8 cm). Results indicate that C can be considered as the best diet alternative to improve the performance of the fingerlings in laboratory conditions.
