Abstract
In order to establish the optimum condition for designing an electrolytic membrane flow reactor for producing strong acid water, a test reactor was developed. The pH, concentration of residual chlorine and oxidation reduction potential of the electrolytic acid water produced by the reactor were measured against applied voltage by changing the sodium chloride concentration and feed rate of water. Mass transport accompanied by electrolytic reaction of hydrogen, hydroxide, and the other related ions in the reactor was formulated and the analytical solutions to local concentrations of the related ions were presented. The relevant transport coefficients and physicochemical constants included in the model equations were determined and compared with the experimental data. It was shown that pH, residual chlorine concentration and oxidation reduction potential of the acid water can be accurately estimated from the present analytical solutions with the empirical physicochemical constants.
