摘要
It is with great sadness that we report the death of Irvine H. Page, a physician and scientist who was the world's foremost pioneer in hypertension research. Dr Page died at the age of 90 from an apparent heart attack at his home in Hyannis Port, Massachusetts, on 10 June 1991 (Fig. 1). Dr Page was born in Indianapolis, Indiana in 1901. Afer graduating from Cornell University with an undergraduate degree in chemistry, he decided to follow his father, Lafayette, into medicine. He received his medical degree at Cornell Medical School and trained at Presbyterian and Bellevue Hospitals in New York City. In 1928 he went to Munich, Germany, where he set up a department at the Kaiser Wilhelm Institute to study brain chemistry, a poorly understood subject at that time. In 1931 he was invited by Dr Donald Van Slyke to work at the Rockefeller Institute in New York City, and it was there that he first became interested in hypertension.
