Effect of Curcumin on the Vascular Permeability in Rat Models of Ovarian Hyperstimulation Syndrome

Objective To observe the effect of Curcumin on the vascular permeability in rat models of ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome(OHSS).Methods Twenty-seven SD rats were randomized into the normal group,model group and Curcumin group,with 9 in each.The OHSS models were established with subcutaneous injection of pregnant mare serum gonadotropin(PMSG) and human chorionic gonadotropin(HCG) in the model group and Curcumin group.The Curcumin group was given 50 mg/(kg·d) of Curcumin suspension intragastrically.The normal group and model group was given the same amount of 0.5% sodium carboxymethyl cellulose solution intragastrically.The intragastric administration lasted for one week in the three groups.The morphology characteristics and differences of ovarian tissue were observed by optical microscope.The ovarian weight,peritoneal washings Evans blue(EB) content and serum estradiol(E2) level was recorded.The expression of vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF) and VEGF receptor(VEGFR) in the ovarian tissue was detected.Results The volume of intraperitoneal recovery fluid,ovarian weight,EB content and E2 level in the model group was significantly higher than those in the normal group(P0.05).The volume of intraperitoneal recovery fluid,ovarian weight,EB content and E2 level in the Curcumin group was significantly lower than those in the model group(P0.05).The levels of VEGF and VEGFR in the model group were significantly higher than those in the normal group(P0.05).The levels of VEGF and VEGFR-2 in the Curcumin group were significantly lower than those in the model group(P0.05).Conclusion Curcumin could reduce the vascular permeability of OHSS by reducing the levels of VEGF and VEGF-2.
