We investigate the interaction of a two-level atom with a cavity field in a squeezed displaced number state: vertical bar n, alpha, z > = (D) over cap(alpha)(S) over cap (z)vertical bar n >. It is shown that this state exhibits interesting features, while generalizing various particular results of the literature. Additional discussions about the influence of phase optimization of a state upon collapse and revivals effects are also considered.
